What is your life’s goal or dream? To own a big house or a new car, to be financially secure, to start a family, or to start a business? To be happy and free? The list goes on, each person has their own personal aspirations, little and big.
What are you doing to reach your goal? It takes a lot of dedication and work to stay focused on your big picture. Some people are fearful of reaching their goal, so they self-sabotage, sometimes without realizing it. They feel that they may make the people around them uncomfortable by achieving their success. Please know that what other people think doesn’t really matter in the overall scheme of things. Your life is about your happiness and success. And chances are the people in your life are rooting for you.
The first step to reaching your goal is to believe that you will reach it. Believe in yourself above all. You have to be dedicated and passionate about it. You can’t half-ass and skate by, life does not usually work that way. Old fashioned work, sweat, and tears are the way to get to your goal!
Part of making sure that you reach your goal is to be accountable. Report to someone other than yourself. In addition to your coach, you may need someone to help hold you accountable. Be it your partner, spouse, parent, training/workout partner, child, just make sure that you have someone to who you report your progress and failures. Write in your journal daily and include what your struggles were and how (or who) helped you through them. Don’t forget to include the small victories too!
Enjoying your life now instead of wasting it by worrying about the future of what-ifs is really living life to the fullest. Energize yourself with the happiness of what is happening. Appreciate the road to your goal. Celebrate all the steps to the wins or milestones along the way to the top.
Stop worrying about what has happened in the past. Let it go. Have a funeral for it. Put it to rest once and for all. By living in the moment, you will allow yourself to truly live and appreciate your life. Really listen to life. Listen to the people around you. Feel it through your body as you experience things.
Measuring your success has more to do with the length of your to-do list to reach your goal. It is also about your personal growth.
- Your pace. Life isn’t about how quickly you rush from one project or event to the next. What life is about is how much enjoyment you got from the steps to complete the project.
- Your self-awareness. If you’re like most people, you probably look back on who you were and want to cringe. Most people don’t have ah-ha moments where they see the mistakes they made AND also have enough understanding to change these, so they are not repeated in the future. If you’re seeing your mistakes and are taking steps to not repeat them, you are headed in the right direction.
- Your priorities are starting to change, and new things are rising to the top of your list. While others are becoming less important.
- Your vision for your future. Have your dreams changed? Great! This means that you’re evolving into who you want to become.
- Your willingness to let go of old emotions. It is healthy and normal for us to experience the entire range of our feelings, even in one day. Let these emotions and feelings out. And move along.
- Your willingness to let go of the past. Remember everything you’ve been through in becoming who you are now. Let go of old mindsets, friends, clothing, belongings, old plans, visions, dreams. Have a “funeral” for these things. Celebrate the start of your new goals.
- Your refusal to be everything to everyone. You are no longer trying to please everyone in your life. You are living your life for YOU.
